Dobbin's Inn Hotel

Family history tells that my gr. gr. gr. great grandfather, a Londonderry-born Irishman named William Ginn who worked as a castle's stablemaster, fell in love with Ann, the daughter of Lord and Lady Dobbs, owners of a castle in that town. The two lovers married and ran off to America in the mid-1800's. The scandal is said to have been such that the Dobbs family obliterated mention of her in family documents. Tragically, Ann died in America, childless.

We learned of a "Dobbin's Inn" in the town of Carrickfergus and paid a visit. The inn building was constructed around the remains of an old family castle-tower that had built long ago by the Dobbs family on land granted to them by the lord of Carrickfergus, whom they served; a tunnel has been found beneath the inn, leading in the general direction of the church, though it's unknown if it actually connected with that tunnel system.

Of course, we had to spend a night in the Inn. ;-)
