For centuries Barbados provided the British Empire with excellent farmlands for many crops including sugar, cotton, and tobacco. Our guide told us that the incredible profit taken from this country built the British Empire, and left the natives of this island with a bitterness towards their colonial masters. Today the farmlands produce crops better suited to the needs of the Caribbean.
